Hello everybody,

I will be going to Monterey California for a week. Does
anybody have any suggestions for clay places there? I'll
have the daytime hours to explore while my husband attends a
chemistry conference.

Thanks,

Sylvia

Don't know about clay but it is gorgeous down there ......go to Monterey
Bay Aquarium, drive around Pacific Grove by the Bay and see tiny old
Victorian homes and huge B&B's. Walk the beach by Asilomar. Drive south to
Point Lobos Park - it's spectacular. Bring a camera. Go kayaking in
Monterey Bay. Drive 1 hour south to Esalen Institute in Big Sur.....get a
massage and hot tub. Go hiking down there. Big Sur has lots of art
galleries....go to Phoenix gallery. Eat at Nepenthe..watch the sunset.
Big Sur is the most incredible place I've been. Breath-taking!!

Wish it was me, Brenda

Hi Brenda!

There is a whole community of clay workers, in Santa Cruz, CA, which is about
40 miles by land, 20 by sea (Monterey Bay), across from Monterey. I
understand there are some clay folks in Carmel, too, which is just south of
Monterey. It's been seven years since I last visited that area, so I can't
give you specific names or addresses.

One suggestion: visit the University of California, Santa Cruz, or call them,
prior to travelling. The ceramics dept. has a good connection with local
artists and potters.

Best wishes!
