There are quite a few recipes that call for magnesium carbonate. Is there
any substitute for this?
I suppose the short answer is yes, provided you are adept with a slide rule =
or
calculator and understand the arithmetic or have access to glaze =
recalculation
programme. The element Magnesium is present in Talc, which is a magnesium =
hydro
silicate mineral, Mg3Si4O10 =3COH=3E2, and in Dolomite which is a =
combination of
Magnesium and Calcium carbonates. But you will get a new recipe and the =
fired
characteristics may not be as you would wish.
The disadvantage of substituting talc is that it is dense and can settle =
out.
Hope that helps others who have wondered about this problem.
