Hi all;
is it possible to use small cones in a cone pack to check the temp in
various parts of the kiln?
Have never heard of this being done so there is probably a good reason!
thanks!

Valice,
It is possible to use small cones as witness cones. We do not
usually reccomend this. When small cones are used as witness cones, higher
temperatures and more heatwork are required for them to bend accounting for
the higher temperature readings that you see in the Orton cone chart. It is
also harder to see the cones in the kiln. Large cones or selfsupporting
cones provide better results for use as witness cones.
