About two weeks ago, Vince Pitelka was kind enough to send his complete =
handout
from the NCECA =22Tool Doctors=22 presentation. In it, there is mention of =
his
solution to exactly this question. In short, he takes a length of 2 x 4 =
(correct
me if I am wrong, Vince) and mounts two dowel rods near each end in an =
upright
configuration (like a squared off U). Note: the end grain of the dowels =
should
run perpendicular to the direction of the 2 x 4 so that they don't split. He
then stretches a wire through holes drilled into the dowels about a half of =
an
inch from the top, and wraps them clockwise (which aids in tightening them)
around screws which are placed about a half of an inch below the holes. He =
then
clamps the 2 x 4 to the table surface.

I changed a few of the design elements in Vince's table harp, but am very
satisfied in its ease of use. I used a 2 x 6 (more stability, and no need to
clamp it), and took the wire from the end of the base, over the top of the
dowels, and back down to the base. Makes it look like a suspension bridge =
with
very steep ends. Part of the reason that I like the 2 x 6 is that I use it =
in a
school setting where we have a large 4 foot x 6 foot wedging table, and it =
is
easy for the students to pass it between each other where ever they are.

Hope that this helps, and that I haven't confused things too much. But if I =
did,
perhaps you might be able to find Vince's posting in the archives, or =
perhaps
someone else will write this more clearly.

That wire that a lot of potters have attached to their wedging table to =
make=3D
it
easier to cut and slam the clay....Well I want to put one on my table, but I
want an easy way to take it off to use the table for other things.

Any suggestions?
