Maid O'Mud Pottery on mon 17 apr 00
I just bought some new elements that I had the company coat in ITC prior
to shipping (I wanted it done right!)...and they did a good job. I was
told to fire empty to ^6 and then to fire either a glaze or bisque
load. Good thing I chose bisque - the ITC spat brown spots all over the
dern kiln and all my bisqueware (which it nicely brushed off of). I
called the company that provided the elements and they contacted ITC for
me. Seems the word back is that this is a normal thing to happen for
several firings.
My question is - how many firings to top temperature does it take until
the ITC stops spitting? I fire to ^10 oxidation. I will be doing an
empty firing with ^11 in the sitter tonight after vacuuming the kiln.
If you have used ITC on your elements, and most especially, if you high
fire your electric kiln, I need to hear from you! I am signed off
clayart whilst I attempt to fill some back orders, so kindly direct the
answer to:

I'm backlogged with bisqueware, and terrified to run a glaze load :-(
As always, many thanks in advance for your collective knowledge.
