Is there any chance that someone out there can tell me if Oxford spar (A
thing of the past, I believe, like Kingman, was/is, a potash or soda
feldspar? Or maybe even better yet, if it is available. Or, a good
replacement for such? Not holding my breath on this one.
Thanks if advance,
Joyce A

According to Glen Nelson:
Oxford Spar
K2O 7.92
Na2O 3.22
CaO .38
Fe2O3 .09
Al2O3 17.04
SiO2 69.4
Which would make it a Potash spar

Dear Joyce,
Oxford spar is a potash spar. I have successfully substituted Custer
for it.Possibly Leslie Ceramic Supply Co might still carry it.The following
is the percentage compostion of Oxford spar:
Na2 0 3.l6
K2 0 7.44
Al2 03 16.12
Si 02 72.66
Fe2 03 0.12
CaO 0.42
MgO trace
Ig.loss 0.3

Dear Joyce,
Oxford Spar was a potash spar and Custer is a pretty good replacement
for it.
