I have an opportunity for rather large tile commission. I would need to have
custom cutters made (like cookie cutters). How do we get these made? Who =
makes
them?

Thanks, Marian in Michigan

There is an ad every month in Ceramics Monthly for a company that makes
custom cookie cutters. Or any sheet metal shop can make them for you.

Rod, Marian, Holly - this was an old post I saved. I hope it helps

Well, as a matter of fact, yes I do. And how lucky YOU are, because I
haven't cleaned off this desk since god was a child.....

Peter Blum (336) 366-3222
271 Dobbins Mill Rd.
Elkin, NC 28621

If you draw out what you want, he can make it. He made custom biscuit cutters
for my mother, and if I ever get off my butt, he'll make tile cutters for
me.
Good luck.

Although I haven't ordered any yet, these look good:

Gordon Ward $4 per corner + $1 per perimeter inch,
50 West 30th Ave non-stick plunger

Marian -

I have my cutters made by Kitchen Collectables in Omaha, NB.

Their phone number is 888-593-2436. Their website is www.kitchengifts.com.

You can also get them less expensively from tinsmith Peter Blum in Elkin
NC. Phone 910-366-3222. His work is very good and sturdy but he delivers them
at a much more leisurely pace.

If you have local craft shows, look for a tinsmith and ask. They almost
always welcome custom work and can make almost any cutters from an outline.

Chris Campbell - in North Carolina - I had a cold and lost Rufous
Hummingbird at my feeder yesterday. He must have gotten blown in by the
severe thunderstorms out of Texas because he was on the wrong coast !! He's
gone today, hopefully he knows how to get home... or at least will ask for
directions.

I have used tile cutters made by:

Gordon Ward Ceramics, Inc., 50 West 30th Ave., Eugene, OR 97405 phone: 541
343-7844
(Gordon's cutters are copper, which is a bit soft, but well made and quite
beautiful - and the plunger is great - He did a very complicated shape for
me - I added two cabinet handles to the top of mine to better facilitate
releasing the clay)

Gail Tomson, Natural Metals, 211 Union St., Bay St. Louis, MS 39520 phone:
601 466-4380
(Gail was working her way through nursing school (I think) when she made a
cutter for me a few years ago - I'm not sure she's still doing this, but her
cutters are very sturdy and well made - I cut my own wood plunger and added
a spring release but she had designed the cutter so mounting these was
easy).

Good luck with your tile project,
