Old early 60's variable speed electric wheel, cast aluminum
pan, electric motor with gearbox. IF that sounds familiar,
that's probably it. Museum
peice. Wouldn't pay much for it if I was going to use it a
lot.

Lisa,

There were several Alpine electric wheels at San Jose State University
when I went there in 1969. They were pretty good back then.

Alpine wheels were made by the same company that
makes the kilns. I used them in college, in the 1970's.
We had 2 models - both looked basically like a Brent CXC.
One had a belt drive, and the top-of-the-line model had
a gear drive. You COULD NOT stop that wheel.
They were well-made professional quality wheels.

I think the electronics are out-of-date, compared to what's
available today.
If I found one for cheap, I would buy it.
It might work fine like it is. If the foot pedal/controller
didn't work good, I would call up Laguna and order the
new footpedal/controller upgrade for the Pacifica GT 800
and replace the electronics.
This would be several hundred dollars, but worth it if
you got the wheel for cheap.
You would have a solid heavy-duty wheel with the newest
electronics, kind of like having a 1955 Chrysler monster
cruiser, but with fuel injection, airbags, and a CD player.

I've had an Alpine wheel and being height impaired and it having a fixed
seating I kept sliding off the darn thing. It did, however, run well and
the gear box allowed for reverse wheel motion. All in all it was a very
good wheel. Needed a better computer so ended up trading for equivalent
value of $450.00.....................Nora

Ain't that the truth? I had a Hyundai Excel that I drove the hell out of -
almost 200k miles before it finally died - I had to jump start the damn
thing to get it to the dealership to trade. It was a great car for me; I
got one of the good ones.

Are Alpine wheels made by the same people that make Alpine kilns?

<Alpine kilns?>>

Yes they were... The wheel was not made any more after
some where in the early to mid 70's.. I called Alpine
about a year ago and there was _one_ guy that
remembered them.. I am thinking his name was Carl or
Charles or Dave.. It was a comon name.. Any way he was
the only one that even seemed to have a clue. He
wasn't really open armed to talk to me about the
wheel, but I did drag some information out of him..
Mostly he told me to call Brent for parts...... If you
find that you need his name let me know and I can dig
it up, I hope...

By the way it was nice meeting you, and I am glad to
see your trip back was safe.. : )
