I was wondering ... If one (me) were to take up a job
as a community center teacher. What type of pay should
one (me) require/expect??
It should be one day full of classes (three to be
exact) I would be responsible for all of the up keep
ordering firing glaze mixing teaching and just plain
everything.. Of course I realize that there will be
several hours that are not on class day's that I would
need to figure lessons, make visuals, fire kilns, do
(yuck) paperwork, and on and on..
I am not sure if it is a salary or hourly job, but I
think that I may not take it if it is hourly, because
I don't feel that that is exactly measurable, since I
can fore see a lot of work at home.
TIA,
Anji

I go into elementary schools and teach clay classes with kids. I get paid
$25-30 per hour, and $10 per hour for prep time---plus expenses. Don't know
if this helps. tj

Dear Anji
In my humble opinion it will not be worth it for the money. the only way that
I think it would be worth it is if it gives you access to the studio for your
own work too including a bigger kiln , or a gas one, or bigger containers of
glaze for dipping. Also interaction with the students among whome you might
find a few good potters waiting to be born. So if these are your needs and
the pay is not minimum wage, concider it, otherwise don't bother, like you
said it is too much trouble and time away from potting.
Hoping you get to the right decision for you
Mayssan
