A gentleman potter in Seagrove by the name of Burns showed me a simple tool
he uses for carving & trimming. You could make it without any trouble and
little cost. He uses the metal packing strips on crates & bends the tool
into a figure 8. The portion in the middle is secured closed with a rivit.
My Dad made me a tool using the metal stripping from a bundle of bricks &
secured it in the middle with a flat but round head screw & an odd nut ( ?
locking nut ) - he drilled holes that matched up the 3 pieces that he
connected. Anyway, it works GREAT - cost nothing & you can make the
triangle/curve any size or angle you wish. At the TOOL DOCTORS workshop, one
of the artist suggested using old dip-stick metal from a car oil tank.
I hope I explained this OK - It is difficult to put into words what I can
show you with such ease.
Good luck,
Vicki Katz
