When I researched gas kilns, I was told by several people that Olympic made
good electric kilns, but that their gas kilns were not satisfactory. In
addition, I took classes at a community center which purchased an Olympic
gas kiln during the time I was there. It did not hold up to firings
approximately once a week. The door had to be replaced before the kiln
was a year old, the ceiling fell in shortly thereafter, and there were
other similar problems, requiring frequent repairs.

We ended up getting a potter here in Atlanta to help us build a gas
kiln. It is much larger than anything we could have afforded to buy
manufactured and cost a lot less.

Dear Dilek,

I saw the post about the olympic kiln by lynn, where she felt it was not
satisfactory. I have had a round 27 inch kiln for a couple years now and it
is used about twice a month. I am quite happy with the kiln, and it gives
great results and good consistancy. The kiln lid has a few cracks in it but
i know this is due to the instances where i need to crash cool to get the
stuff out for a show. It may not hold up in a school environment where
student abuse is high but it sure seems to be doing well in my studio. I get
better looking pots from my olympus than i do from my large kiln. Reduction
is really great and easy to achieve.

Hope this helps,
Tony
