Marcia:
Parmelee's book is titled "Ceramic Glazes" and now is available
as a 2nd edition (with a second author who did the revisions).
"Ceramic Science for the Potter" by WG Lawrence, and "Fine
Ceramics" by FH Norton also give lots of technology data of materials and
approach to glaze design.
But for those lacking chemical and mineral data, I'd recommned
Michael Cardew's "Pionner Pottery" and as a guide.
But if you simply want some glazes to test, then any of the
recipe-based books will do, Chappel, Conrad, Cooper, Hopper, others. Be
prepared, however, for some ongoing tests because your materials aint like
my materials, your glazing method is different, your firing schedule is
different, and other hangups exist too which accounts for book recipes
travelling badly.
til later. Peace. Tom B.

Tom,
thanks for the book titles. I have all those you mention except Norton
and Lawrence. Someone else had asked for the book entitled "Chemistry
for the Potter".
I did ask for the Volcanic Ash info.
Hope the person gets these titles.

Dear, Dear Joe,
You would want a glaze book if stranded on a desert isle?????
Frankly I'ld rather have the pool boy and some icy cold Margaritas!!!!

Put me down for a years supply of chocolate, and
a years supply of clay. Ok on the pool boy, but not the
margaritas...maybe a coffeemaker.

Now does that desert isle have a good supply of raw materials and the
makings of a kiln?????
A potter on an island with only a glaze book and lacking those
essentials might think he had died and gone to hell.
