Hi everyone,
I have been make planters and fountains based on a mermaid theme.........a
sweet young face with seashell, starfish, seaweed and fish in her hair.
I've been using LilttleJohn Clay from Clayart in gas fired cone 10
reduction. I still haven't found a green that I like for the seaweed. I've
used celadon and Birk's dark green. Any suggestions for a good vibrant
green do go over dark clay.
Thanks, Brenda

Brenda, in case no-one's sent you a better cone 10 green glaze:
Oribe cone 10 reduction (& possibly oxidation)
Custer spar 30.91
Silica 25.32
Whiting 22.36
EP Kaolin 12.55
Talc 7.81
Bone Ash 1.05
Total: 100.00
Add: Copper Carb. 5.49
Due to the heavy copper %, probably not food-safe, but should be fine
for your purposes. The recipe is from the May 1995 Ceramics Monthly, I
think from Anderson Ranch. Samples can be seen on the Cone 10 section of
my web-page. Good luck!

Dear Ilene:
This glaze was on porcelain but is quite opaque and might not be much
different on a darker clay. I thought it looked quite nice but did not put
it on the stoneware (moderate Iron content) at that time. Good luck!

Am I off track or is there something about Cobalt that I'm not aware of...
I though that Cobalt Carbonate would make blue. I've seen some glazes where
it floats up and provides a pink blush on a blue background, but green and
sage to boot? Please clue me in, it seems that my education is woefully
lacking.

The last two rain storms in Oklahoma City have fallen straight down. I
don't know how to act, we're so used to horizontal rain that to see it fall
straight down is really rare. Maybe that's how cobalt turns green.
