don't let trolls stop you from mining clayart gold!

The idea that people should send hate mail received as a result of being =
on
clayart back to the list so that Chief can ban that person is
abhorent to me.

I think it is not a good idea, to put it mildly. I have a few emails =

that I have saved that came from an individual that surprised the heck =

out of me with their hateful pettiness and sheer meanness. The idle
viciousness of their comments made me sick due to the hypocritical =

sweetness of the person online. I felt like they were some kind of =

monster to seem so sane when posting and so vile and bileous when =

writing to me personally. I tried to give them the respect they get =

from me due to the way I was raised, but it didn't work. I eventually =

wrote to them telling them to stop reading my posts and stop writing to =

me. I got 14 emails from that person in a 24 hour period recently. =

This person is called on other newsgroup lists, a troll. But you would =

never know their troll nature by reading the group. Note that I can talk=

about my troll without mentioning the troll by name. It is much better
this way. Some people really really like the troll and I don't want to =

burst their bubble. Troll is gender neutral. "Trolling" is someone who
reads a group looking for a fight, by the way. (if you did not send me =

many hate filled messages recently, you are not my troll, don't be =

paranoid!)

The point of this is: there are trolls here too. Banning them will not =

work. Ignoring them personally will. A kill file on your personal mail =

reader that automatically blocks their message from getting in your box =

is the best solution. They won't exist for you anymore. That is the onl=
y
answer that will work and also optimize freedom on the list. Mel is doing=
=

a good job. Trolls are hard to detect. Like pedophiles, they seem normal=

unless you happen to be their target. I enjoy reading my troll's posts
and other people's posts about my troll because I am amused by the =

duplicitous gall of it. Your troll can't enjoy your suffering if you =

don't react to them, and they will move on.

Some folks on the list might not enjoy the fact that I post too much. =

They can delete my posts. That is good for me. A normal person will =

stop reading things that make them angry enough to try to inflict pain =

on someone else. Trolls do not, they are cowards who try to change your =

actions to suit them, to make you post less. They get their jollies =

trying to control and manipulate other people. Don't let them win.

I have become quite friendly with several people that I have been =

embroiled in bitter debate with. And the troll that I referred to =

earlier has never said a mean thing about me publicly. You are only =

seeing what people WANT you to see on the list. It is by reaching out =

to people you meet here offline that you truly begin to make friends =

and really harvest the gold that is the Clayart List. =
