abusive email and privacy

I must disagree with Vince and a few others- If a person sends me abusive
email- and offends me- off list- he/she has no right to my cooperation in
hiding their identity. If it is sent to me- it is as much mine as it is the
senders.

If they don't want their transgression broadcast and identified- they have
a clear choice- just don't offend me by sending it in the first place.

I will hesitate and think long and hard before responding in kind or making
the trash public, but that is to my benefit, and for the sensibilities of
the group- not out of consideration for the offender.

I have been lurking for too long, and this brought me upright, fast.

Love to (almost ) all- Bill- From the fastness of Perrsimmon Hill

Bill -
I guess it just depends on what you or others consider abusive, and that is
where the problem lies. What you think of as abusive may just be someone
else's attempt to draw you into a productive arguement on some subject
offline, rather than letting that happen online. Ane even if you decline
and they persist, I cannot condone the idea of "punishing" someone by
forwarding their obnoxious or abusive personal email to Clayart. That is
abuse of Clayart. As I said before, there are other ways of dealing with
this. If someone is receiving abusive email from a Clayart member, please
contact the Clayart moderater and get his opinion on the matter. He has
wisdom in such things. Don't clog up the Clayart list by airing someone's
dirty laundry online.
Best wishes -

Vince- I think you missunderstand- I have been the victim of abusive email-
not from members of THIS list- but real, nonetheless- Believe me- I have
the knowledge and discrimination to know abuse and vulgarity when I see it.
Additionally, I thought I indicated my reluctance to send such to this
list- BUT- that is MY decision, not the abusers, and does have to do with
feelings other that the senders.
I, also, have HIGH regard for both the present "LIst Mom" and the previous
ones, and would consult with them before any action. In addition- we have
afully moderated list- Mel sees all, knows all- he can stop any out of line
postings, through the list. This is probably why abuse tends to go Off
list-- He would stop any really abusive stuff.

He is boss- I like it that way- I am on many lists, and, believe me , this
one is very well handled.
