kiln controller effecting wheel speed

Hi:

I wonder if any of you clay-electricians can shed any light on this one.

My wife fuses glass and has a 42amp electric kiln that fires with a
controller. When the controller cycles on and off it changes the speed of
my wheel a bit and it gets really annoying. I've tried different circuits
in the shop but it's all the same. I'm wondering if their is any sort of
supressor or something I can install in the line I use for the wheel. I
use 2 Brents and they have DC motors. And Tony, don't tell me to get a
damn kickwheel OK!! I couldn't get any slower if I tried.

Thanks for any help, Craig Martell in Oregon

Hi Craig,
I really doubt that it is the controller that is setting off your wheel. If the
change is not momentary it sounds like you are experienceing a small brownout in
your studio. If that is the case a larger service would help. If the change in
speed is momentary, then perhaps it is because of something that can be
suppressed. That would be a topic for someone else perhaps a line conditioner
might help? You might want to call a motor repair shop with a good technician or
talk to a knowlegable person at Brent.
