In my latest Star Trek novel by L.A. Graf there is a rather poetic
reference to raku. Sulu realizes that he can now tell the members of a
reptilian species apart by their coloring:
I was starting to be able to tell the Nykkus apart by the different
undertones of garnet, sapphire and amethyst that gleamed like a raku
pottery glaze across their dark scales.
Just thought it was interesting to see raku used as an analogy in the
science fiction genre.
