Sue,
I've been playing with clay in various forms for over 25 years! My =
Mother likes to take credit for getting me started in clay because she =
introduced me to Playdoh. Infact, she made me blush terribly at college =
graduation, when she told my ceramic teacher, the late Kent Dawalt, how =
I got my start in Playdoh. He had a good laugh! She does get credit =
for signing me up at the Chicago Park District for clay classes when I =
was 10 yrs. old. I had a great teacher, Lillian Golnick, who just let =
me play and explore the possibilities of clay. I also have two older =
cousins, Ross and Linda McDonald, who are potters. They have been very =
encouraging and supportive in letting me work with them in their studio. =
And of course Kent, who got me thinking about form, space, and clay as =
a sculptural material. I also have a degree in archaeology, and have =
been fortunate to have had the chance to study and research ancient =
pottery from all over the world. I draw from those experiences when =
creating new pieces. -Julie Pitzen culturesnclay@gateway.net
