Thoughts about Christopher Foxwell's dilemma.
I think the situation for intending art students is being resolved in =
some countries around the globe. During the Thatcher years in the UK, I =
came to understand that Art was on the way out as far as tertiary =
vocational training was concerned. I understand that the trend was to =
Design with an capital d. So there was to be exceptionally strong =
emphasis on Brief Preparation, Materials exploitation, Problem solving =
and Client cultivation.
Perhaps those in the know could enlighten us about this trend in other =
places and it=92s effects on teaching at all levels.
