firemaster kiln, model #9 help

I made the impetuous decision to purchase a kiln off ebay only to find that
no operating manual is available!!! I'm a jewelry designer/painter eager to
work in small ceramics. I was not able to find the manufacturer; I am lead
to believe they have closed their doors. I am therefore at the mercy of the
Clayart community...judging from other posts this is a GOOD thing. If
anyone has a manual that I can copy (and will pay for) or helpful hints to
ease my mind, please contact me. The kiln is 120 volts, 14 amps and has an
8 position switch for varying temperature...if it matters.

Looking for a mentor and or angel- CAT

Hi Cat,

It's truly amazing! I have just been racking my brains (no easy task!)
trying to remember who had asked about FireMaster kilns a while back. I'd
responded that the guy who owned the company had died & I thought the
company had closed. Not true! Someone else took it over & I spoke to him
just the other day. He did say that he doesn't always answer his phone,
but the number is: (916)-383-2648

The address is: 8130 Junipero St
Sacramento, CA
95828

I just called him again & he said there is no manual, but he can send a
wiring diagram if you want. That model is mostly used for lost cast and
enameling.

Good luck!

Hi, Cat.

I'm not familiar with your kiln, but I can offer you a few suggestions.
First, this kiln won't likely be designed to go above earthenware
temperatures, and may fire slowly. Get the brand name of the kiln sitter
and/or controller, if the kiln is equipped with one. You may be able to get
an instruction book for the sitter, as they are often manufactured by a
separate company. These small kilns tend to be simple to operate and pretty
similar to one another. You might get your information together and visit a
local ceramic shop--you know, the kind where they sell slip-cast figurines
and that sort of thing. The shop owners will likely be able to give you some
very good advice for running your kiln.
