I have been running through kiln loads of test pieces over the past few =
weeks, and of course, there were several glazes that just didn't work =
for me. It may be my firing schedule, my kiln, my ingredients, whatever, =
but in any event, I decided I'd post these to Clayart so they'd be in =
the archives. I'm sure they would work for others (in fact, many of =
these I tried because I know people who swear by them), so maybe someone =
else will enjoy having the recipes. As you can see, I'm searching for =
the perfect runny, glossy, textured blue, green and purple, and also =
crave any and all oxidation tenmokus. Well, I did find a good blue (NOTE =
TO RON ROY!!!! - Ron Roy's Sapphire, the perfect blue, although it's =
giving me a little trouble - white globs appearing in the firing that I =
swear weren't there when I glazed the pieces - any ideas? I've thinned =
it, sifted it, dipped, brushed, everything I could think of. They look =
like white snot (how appetizing on coffee mugs), and if I grind the =
spots and dot over them & refire, they don't come back, but that's a big =
pain.), found a great green in the form of a bought pre-mix, and am =
still looking for purples and tenmokus. I fired them all to cone 6 and =
also (in a separate firing) to cone 7, in oxidation, on Standard Ceramic =
brown stoneware and white stoneware.

^ 6

Gerstley 500

Kaolin 220

Tony Hanson=92s Glossy Navy Blue

^ 6

Wollanstonite 20

3134 20

Kaolin 20

Silica Flint 20

Feldspar 20

Cobalt Carb 4

(I got a pretty ugly, patchy blue, which also crazes at any edges where =
it's exposed to my other glazes (around the lip, for instance), and =
isn't the color I like in a blue.)

Black Tenmoku

^ 6

Cornwall Stone 75.00

Kaolin 10.00

Gerstley Borate 5.00

Whiting 10.00

Red Iron Oxide 9.00

(I have tested this over and over because I desperately want it to look =
like Earl Brunner's Black Tenmoku (which is reduction), but I just keep =
getting a matte black that looks thin and patchy no matter how thick I =
put it on.)
