Hi all,
I was roaming around in the Japanese cyberspace last night.
I stumbled into a site called " Ugoku Togei Kyoushitsu", a mobile pottery
classroom.
Yes, you guessed it right. The trailer that is equipped with everything that
is required for
operating a pottery class. Yes even a kiln.
This is a business operation and the target market covers kindergarten,
elementary school,
high school, Senior center and nursing home, Craft fair, and any kind of
place
where the trailer can park and take out the kiln. It looked like a thriving
business.
That's a good idea, I thought. I haven't seen it in this country yet.

The South Carolina Arts Commission had several trailer tractor pulled all
equipped for clay, photograhy, weaving and more that traveled all over the
state for 1 week or a month of scheduled workshops. They had a staff for
each vechicle and hired anew each year. The artists hired had a big say in the
way the truck trailer was set up and equipped. It was a huge affair and was
in service over a decade and may still be going , although I have not seen a
schedule for it in the papers for a long time, oh well, probably gone now.

Aiko,
FYI The Clay Studio in Philadelphia has a mobile set up and from what I
understand goes to schools in the city and gives ceramic lessons. The Clay
Studio has been around for about 25+ years, has a nice gallery, studio space,
guest instructors form around the world and the Claymobile. I'll check to
see if they have a web site. Most likely, maybe someone out there knows the
address. If so, let us know.
