Hello Clayarters,
I'm new to this board and fairly new to Dallas. This seems like a great
community and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better.

I'd like to meet other potters, check out the ceramics scene here, and find
out where to buy clay and other supplies. Any advice in that area? Is
Trinity the best place to buy supplies?

I'm researching setting up a home studio as well, and would love any leads
on buying a used wheel (preferably treadle) and electric kiln that can fire
to cone 10 (as well as any advice on setting up a studio in a backyard and
garage!).

Does anyone know about the pottery classes at Richland college? I'd want to
take classes in a high fire reduction environment, but I don't want to drive
too far. (I live in Richardson.) Thanks!

Julie Ryan

I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses form the local folk, as there are ample
clay opportunities in and around Dallas. You might want to hook up with the
Dallas craft guild to start with. Most of the community colleges and
universities in the area have good ceramic facilities. I know that there is a
good set up at Brookhaven college. You'll really like the instructor too.

I'd recommend Trinity Ceramics Supply. Not only do they have any clay or glaze
material you'll need, but they have a great supply of pottery tools, glazes,
premixed clay bodies, books, ceramics periodicals, you name it. They really
have made some major improvements to their tool shop since I moved from the area
six years ago.

There is another clay supplier in Ft Worth too, but they changed ownership in
the last 2-3 years and I haven't heard much about them yet. probably worth a
phone call.
