Dear Lisa,
I have had a Pacifica wheel for well over 20 years now - have had only one
problem with it ( can't remember what ) and that was fixed by the local
pottery supply company. I find it a fantastic wheel - easy to work with and
to clean up, and one problem in all that time must be a record.

Lisa,
Your question will provoke a variety of opinions. You devil, you! :-)
I am one who has a Pacifica wheel, bought it about 2 years ago, and am
very happy with it. I use it a moderate amount, frequently throw 20 to 50
pounds, and so far have been pleased with the speed control.
Because this is a relatively low-priced wheel, I do not expect it to hold up
as well as some others, nor be as rugged if abused.
Hope this is helpful

I have had the GT 800 since about '93 and am well pleased with it. Since
then they have retooled the foot pedal. It is a strong, well performing
maching. I have worked on Brent and Shimpo and prefer the Pacifica. The
belts get squeaky but it is shipped with a can of silicon spray which
alleviates the problem.

Hi Lisa-
We have had our Pacifica (we bought it used) for
12 1/2 years now and the only trouble we have had
was the brushes in the motor. It had to be sent to
Laguna Clay Co. (they build Pacifica) to be repaired.
The local electric repair shops wouldn't touch it.
But that has been our only problem-we love the
machine. I've centered 25 lbs. of clay on it and
it handled it well. Good luck.

Hi Lisa,
I am a owner of a Pacifica wheel, 400 in fact. I've had mine for almost 5
years now, and
been happy with it. The only major repair I've had during those years was
to replace the
internals in the control box. The guts of the box burned out, I mean
fried!!! The people
at Laguna repaired it and tested the motor and pedal for me, just to make
sure it all worked
just fine.

The only negative thing about them...the splash pan is too small and short!
Mainly too short.
I decided to take it off and put a full table splash wall around the whole
table top.

During the 5 years I've had mine. I have not replace the belts! They have
held up and just
keep going around and around.

Hope this helps.

lisa renze (any relation to lowercase mel?) was asking about Pacifica wheels.
lisa, I've used Pacifica wheels for over 20 years. I'm quite happy with the
wheels I have now, though there were problems with the speed controls on a
couple of them. Laguna was very cooperative in getting that fixed. The
Pacifica wheel was manufactured for many years by an eccentric inventor, Bob
Lutweiler, just about a mile from where I live. A few years back Bob sold out
to Laguna. Over the years the speed control electronics have been redesigned
several times, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I have two very old
Pacificas (over 20 years) that have never given me a moments trouble. The two
newer ones (less than 10 years) that I have were the ones that gave me
trouble. I belive that the current speed control on the Pacifica wheels
offered new at this time are quite satisfactory. I like Pacifica wheels! The
fact that they cost less than most comparable wheels is an added plus.

I was wondering if someone who has or has owned a Pacifica wheel was happy
with it? Are they a good brand? Last a long time? Easy to fix and get parts
for if needed? Please let me know I am considering buying one- the 400
series.

Lisa,
We love ours. We have one of each, GT 400 and GT 800, and have had them
for about eight years. The company has been great to deal with and has gone
out of their way to get pedals returned to us quickly...after lightening
fried them. The wheels are real workhorses. I love the quiet function.
I've worked on all kinds and wouldn't trade these.
Good luck,
Jan

Thanks for the reply about the wheel. I just purchased a bailey wheel and
really like it so far. It was similiar in price about exactly the same to be
honest. The features on the bailey are really nice though and won me over
the pacificia. I am sure thought it is just as good.

Lisa,
I've owned a Pacifica 800 model for two years and it's been very good to
me. Now I can only admire those that dedicated thier life to clay and are at
the wheel everyday. But I'm on it around 15 hours a week and have had very
little trouble other than stripping the threads on one of the allen screws
that tighten my wheel head to the shaft. This happened while I was leveling
the head. If I was to buy another wheel it would be a Pacifica. Hope this
helped.

Lisa,

I've had one for about half a year. My teacher has had one for 20 years
with no problems.

She recommended this brand to me. I like it a lot. Use other wheels at
school and workshops. Prefer my Pacifica.
