EMERGING ARTISTS - NCECA 2001, CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF CANDIDATES

CRITERIA/PROCEDURES

1. An individual must be both nominated and recommended by
professionals in the
field of ceramics; or an individual may nominate herself/himself
and
include a letter of recommendation from another professional in
the
field of ceramics. In any case, the nominator must be a
different
person from the recommender.

2. This award is primarily for professional artists in the field of
ceramics
who are only now emerging, but have not yet received major
national
attention. Nominee may not currently be a student.

3. Nominee must show exceptional promise in the field of ceramics and
may not
also be a demonstration artist for the same NCECA conference.

4. Nominee must submit 12 slides (in a 11" x 8-1/2" transparent slide
sheet)
labeled with number of slide, artist's name, title of piece,
media,
dimensions, and top indicated by an arrow or word "top", along
with
a numbered slide sheet, a complete resume, a one-page artist's
statement, a letter of nomination, and a letter of
recommendation.

5. Those chosen as 2001 Emerging Artists must attend the conference in
Charlotte, North Carolina. Each artist will give a 12-minute
slide
presentation of her/his work, for which the standard presenter's

honorarium will be given. A contract with specific instructions

regarding number of slides, slide carousels, and other pertinent

information will be sent to winners soon after selections are
made. (Presentations will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001,
9 a.m.)

7. ALL MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 13, 2000.

8. A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE must be included for return of
slides.
Please be sure to use cardboard backing to prevent slides from
bending in the mail. Winners' slides and application materials
will be
saved by NCECA for the archives.

9. JURORS: Cary Esser, Head of Ceramics, Kansas City Art Institute and

NCECA 2002 On-site Conference Liaison, Kansas City, Missouri and

Aurore Chabot, Professor, Ceramics, University of Arizona,
Tucson and
NCECA Director-at-Large 2001.

10. NOTIFICATION OF THE NCECA 2001 EMERGING ARTISTS WILL BE BY
DECEMBER 8, 2000.
