pacifica and lubricant?

I don't have a Pacifica.....or for that matter any wheel at the moment....but when
I get squeeks on belts on machinery, I first check for proper belt tension and then
use an old aircraft mechanic's trick. Hold a block of parafin against the belt for
a few seconds as it runs. This dresses the belt. Never had a belt squeek fail to go
away for an extended time.. There may be exceptions, but I haven't found them so
far. If your silicon doesn't seem to be doing the trick, try the parafin.

A quick question: I bought a Pacifica wheel 4 years ago, I am happy with it.
But in following this thread there seems to be a need to lubricate with
silicon. Is that necessary? I have never done it, Didn't know I was supposed
to. Am I?
Thanks for the input.

The belts sometime squeak when they get dry, and Pacifica includes a can of
silicone w/ every wheel. Just follow the directions I posted earlier if you
need to give it a squirt. It's easy, and painless.

If the belt squeeks the tension is not adjusted tight enough. The belt
is squeeking because it is loose and slipping. This will cause the surface
of the belt to become glazed and its gripping power is lessened thus causing
more squeeking. The slippage causes heat, causes glazing, causes more
slippage, causes more heat, the belt cracks, the belt breaks. Belt dressing
or silicone is not a fix, just temporarily gives the belt traction to stop
squeeking for a while.

Hope this helps, Harry
