Reality check: this is not a lot of money. You will waste well more
than two dollars of your time trying alternative materials. Just pay
the money. You will hopefully earn it all back from the first few =

pieces you make with your new extruder.

Many people pay $2.69 for a cheeseburger and that will only make them fat=
ter. =

The U-bolts will make you money!

I have never regretted any money that I have spent on my studio. Even
if I later found that I did not need the gig I bought, I learned about
the thing and its use and that was worth money.

I recently read a book called, "When smart people work for dumb bosses"

Unfortunately, I work for myself. =

For five years, my production has been cut in half each summer due to =

the heat where I live. My dumb boss wouldn't shell out the money for =

an air conditioner, complaining that it would cost electricity and dry =

out the clay. She is an idiot. I got the numbers: 150 for the unit and =

$20 per month for three months a year. I convinced her that I could make=
=

$250 in work that I would not have been able to stand the heat to make =

in the first year and that after that it would be gravy. I was right. =

I listened, and now I work in the sweet comfort of an air conditioned =

studio. I feel like a queen and am working hard, despite 90 degree =

weather. I guarantee I would not be out there, as my boss is lax and =

lets me work when I want (she is an idiot, remember).

Sometimes it pays to talk to yourself real hard, and listen.

Elizabeth,

I loved your post about dumb bosses and smart workers. Still
chuckling, in fact. My "boss" didn't want to shell out the money for a
Giffin Grip. She didn't want to pay for an extruder or a pug mill or a
bigger kiln. I'm so glad I talked her into it. We've made a lot more money
since then. We don't need an air conditioner, as our studio is naturally
cool, but if we did, I'm sure your post would have provided the needed
nudge.

If clay is a hobby, one can afford to make do with less expense in the tool
department, but when it is one's profession, one needs to be willing to
shell out the bucks for the best tools, workspace, and whatever is needed.
This doesn't cost money--it makes money.
