Hi,

Checked your site out and had no problem. Congratulation on getting it up.
We too are working on getting our site up. If you don't mind sharing, the ?
is ,how did you come up with the shipping charge chart. from UPS ? How do
other clayarter charge. Flat rate ? True UPS fee with a handling charge?
Thanks, Tracy & Chris

Hi,
I'm sure I don't get what I should for shipping with this chart.
It's for retail only by the way.
The following is an interesting site for trying out different
scenarios with shipping:
http://www.UPS.com/using/services/rave/rate.html

I came up with the chart because I don't ship out of state all
that much, but when I do, it's just easier to give the customer
a flat rate. A lot of times I'm asked how much it will cost to
ship an item they _might_ buy. The chart makes it easy to give
them a clear answer, and then I feel better sticking with the
flat price even if the chart was a bit off. If I start doing a
landslide business over the web, I might have to fine tune the
numbers.

I just used the above web site to figure the cost of shipping 4
mugs to either NY or CA
I used a 12/12/12 box weighing 5 pounds.
To NY it costs 6.00 UPS. I would have gotten 10.00 using the chart
To CA it costs 8.40 UPS I would have gotten 14.00 using the chart

This looks okay to me.
What do you all think?
Jennifer just caught up with replying to all the nice posts
emails about my site. You all _rock_ as my son would say.....

Jennifer,

I didn't check out your shipping charges, but your description of shipping
in one box causes me some concern for your sake. *Always* double box
*everything*, with only one teeny weeny possible exception--if you're
shipping a single, low-end item, you may be able to get away with a large
single box. Otherwise, UPS/USPS *will* break your pottery--not every time,
but certainly most of the time.

Hi Cindy,
I haven't had breakage via UPS in many years: I have a
_complicated_ ;-) system of egg cartons and bubble wrap (free
kayak shipping sleeves cut up with an electric carving knife))
that allow me to single box. I essentially make a layer of egg
cartons on all sides(cardboard on them on the bottom layer), and
then wrap each pot in a few layers of bubble wrap(taped shut). I
make sure that all pots have 3 inches of packing between them.
And this is all JAMMED tight in the box. No jiggling allowed.
Works great. For BIG boxes I do double box, but not for little
stuff like 4 mugs. Of course my pots aren't very fragile. No
delicate parts, other than teapot spouts. Your mileage may vary.
Also no funky worn out card board boxes.
Take Care
