belts on pacifica wheels/brent wheels

Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

We have 10 Brent C wheels and 1 CXC wheel all belt driven. No squeeks, no
slipage no need to spray, rub, or anything other wise on the belts. No
problems.

Why do folks have belt problems with their Pacifica wheels? Bad design? No
auto tensioning devices on the motor? Whats up with these wheels?

The Pacifica does not use a conventional v-belt. Rather, it uses four bands that
are circular in cross section, elastic, and made of some kind of synthetic silicon
rubber or such. I t is a stretch fit, no mechanical tensioning provision as I
recall. (haven't had to get out and get under since I moved my studio, so my memory
is a little cloudy here.) They do tend to sing a little, but it is not like the
squeel of a conventional belt. Being lazy and a little hard of hearing, I haven't
used the spray in quite a while. The belts don't seem to slip noticeably and I have
a realhard time slowing ing the wheel when centering large lumps (loading the motor
down), something I can do easily with our Shimpo super RK-10's. I tried a friend's
Brent CXC but didn't like the way it jerked at low speed. The Pacifica just doesn't
do that, and has plenty of torque to boot.
