most kilns that we see are in schools. big.
but, why should you build that kiln at home?
take any plan, make it small.

kurt and i and the gang have built many tiny kilns.
they work just fine.

look at lou, olson. take the plans and make them smaller.
fit your work load.

wood kilns are usually built to match the testosterone level
of the big boy potter.

you can make a wood fired kiln almost any size.

why chase a 400 cubic foot kiln?....it takes a great deal
of work to fill it...and a bad firing wipes you out.

make the kiln fit the work you do.

sometimes, three small kilns, stoneware, salt, wood....may
give you the greatest pots in the world...variety, spice.

mel
but then, perhaps the greatest pots on earth are being fired
in an electric kiln to cone six....she is good. we just don't
know who she is.

How do you fire Irons and coppers together - you don't . Do you build 50
foot of Iron ,with Iron in mind the whole time ? Do you glaze a piece
Iron when you really want it to be in copper? Are you ready for all the
problems that come when you are trying to communicate with your decorator
? How do you fill a big kiln all by your self ? Big kilns are company or
community . A couple of 16's or 24's can be more than enough work and
can add a whole lot of flexibility . Alohaz Tim
