Many thanks to all who answered my question on making clay soft and suitable
for throwing. Many suggestions were offered and I have tried three of them.
My results were as follows:

Wrapping the clay in a wet bath towel worked the best. I did cut the clay
from a fresh bag into 4 pieces. Next time I will try the whole bag.

Putting a cup of water into the bag, sealing the bag, putting in a bucket and
covering with water probably would have worked much better if the bag didn't
have tiny holes. One of my suppliers seems to have a problem with that.
That is probably why the clay is so hard in the first place.

Don't have the results on the freezer experiment yet. That will be another
week.

That wonderful little boy who kneads clay sounds like one in a million. None
of my children were ever that willing to help with anything. Besides, my
kids are long gone.

I'm still going to save my money for a pugmill. If I don't need it, I'm sure
I will find plenty of other clay things to buy. Thanks again everybody.
