Hey, there! I purchase my ceramic supplies from Great Lakes Clay in =
Carpentersville, IL (120 South Lincoln, 800/258-8796). If you have a =
personal aversion to GLC, try Chicago Ceramic Supply in Evanston, IL (942 =
Pitner, 847/425-1900); these guys are pricier, but they're the only ones =
I've found around here with really big elephant ear sponges and Dolan =
tools. There's also ART Studio Clay Company in Sturtevant, WI (9320 =
Michigan Avenue, Sturtevant, WI, 877/278-2529).

I'm a northsider so I buy most of my clay and supplies at
Ceramic Supply Chicago
942 Pitner Avenue
Evanston, IL 60202
Phone: 847/425-1900

Shimpo in Itasca sells Tucker clay if you want to go a little west.
Shimpo
1701 Glenlake Ave.
Itasca, IL 60143
Phone: 630-924-7138

If you like to drive, Great Lakes Clay is about a 45 minute drive, but
they have everything!
Great Lake Clay
120 S. Lincoln Ave.
Carpentersville, IL 60110
Phone: 800-258-8796

I've bought stuff from all of them and they are all very helpful.

A couple of places to get basics are Great Lakes Clay co (Indiana) or A.R.T.
in Wisconsin; great sources for all basic supplies and equipment. I like
ART talc for handbuilding and Great Lakes for wheel; you can experiment.
There are other wholesalers for bisque and glazes. Email me if you want
other specifics. The companies listed have web sites and are easy driving
distance from Chicago. Rhonda Fried
