Eleanor,

Try aquarium stores. They often have this sort of thing. Also, if there =
are rock shops in your area, the people there would likely be able to =
help you, even if they don't carry specifically what you want. Building =
materials outlets sometimes offer this sort of thing, too. Any rocks =
which you keep wet will be shiny, of course, but if you like, you can =
try spraying matte rocks with clear acrylic and see if you like the =
look. Otherwise, you might try a tumbler.

I bough mine at GI Joe's in the automotive department. It is a clear =
plastic hose. I would guess you could find it at any automotive supply =
store.

-i am looking for a wholesale source for shiny river stones to be used =
in fountains. can anyone give me an address, phone #, or web-site for a =
source?
i am also interested in finding plastic hosing (about 1/4-1/2 inch =
diam.) which is ridged similar to that of clothes dryer pipe. i have =
seen it on some commercial fountains and it seems to be very forgiving =
and bends easily without collapsing.
fountains seems to be this year's hot item !!

Dear Eleanor:

Pier One has awesome polished river stones that are really inexpensive
($5.00 for a bag of about 60 stones 2 inches accross, they tend to be
flatish) .

Eleanor,
You might try Eagle or Home Depot. I paid $3.99
for a 5lb bag. It's in the garden section near
the Bonsai stuff.
I found their prices better than Pier One.
You can also find wonderful rocks at gravel/rock
places that supply landscaping stone etc.
You may notice that their prices are listed per ton.
You can get a small quantity!
I agree that you do not need extremely polished
rock as once the water hits it looks polished.
Good luck,
Gayle Bair-did her fountain selling last year then
Costco, K-Mart, Target brought in the $34.99 mass produced
ones. Now... onto those "diet" mugs!^>
