Nancy:

In the DFW area it's around $100 set up and $ 75 an hour plus film and
developing. I finally got tired of paying and have spent the last couple of
years learning to do it myself.

I started out with a Nikon F3 SLR, Tungsten lights and Kodak 160 Tungsten
film. I quickly changed to Fuji 64T Tungsten film. I then tried Fuji
Daylight film (Provia, Velvia, and Astia) with a filter over the lens and
Tungsten lights. I currently use Fuji Provia 100F 35 mm film and a strobe
light setup.

You can see examples of my photography on page 22 of the April CM, the cover
and pages 48-51 of the May CM, and page 57 of the June/July issue of
American Craft.

All of the images are with the setup I described earlier with the exception
of the cover shot where I used a Mamiya medium format (2 1/4 x 2 1/4) camera
which my dear friend John Britt loaned me. I'm shooting again this weekend
and I'm going to shoot 35 mm and 2 1/4. I plan on learning how to use the
large format (4 x 5) in the near future.

Ciao,

Rafael Molina-Ridriguez

Dear claypals
I am getting some pix done of my work, my question is what is an
appoximate going hourly rate? I have an offer but I have no reference to
go by. In the past I have traded for such stuff.
Thanks
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

I recently paid $40/hour. for labor, plus the cost of the film and
processing, at our university's photo services dept. Being a university
affiliated service, I would imagine this is at the low end of the scale.

Standard rate in State College, PA is $100-$150.00/hr for the time plus
developing and film cost. Fortunately I bartered the last time.

Dear Nancy; I just had my first pro-slides done in 43 years of potting. The
fee for the photographer was $70/hr with me as his set-up person and
go-fer. Add the cost of 5 exposures + the middle three repeated = 12 slides
for $283. It was a delight to work with him; and they look great! But Oh
My! Hank in Eugene
