The Ceramic League of Miami is in the Falls area just off US 1. There
are over 100 members supporting 3 warehouse bays with wheels, kilns,
classes, chemicals for glazes, etc. They are celebrating their 50th
anniversary this year.

Hello everyone, I have been lurking here for about 3 weeks now. Very
interesting. I am a former potter in West Palm Beach, Florida. Due to a
serious low back injury in 1992, I have been away for so very long.
As I read your letters it all comes flooding back. My question is this, do
any of you know of a Ceramic League or Art Guild here in Fla? I would love
to start doing pottery in some capacity. Anyone with info on throwing from a
standing position would be wonderful. Trying to decide if it is wise to make
plans for a new studio. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
Harriet, dreaming of clay in hot, humid, sunny south fla.

Welcome, Harriet,
I was having a lot of lower back pain and decided to shell out the $$$
for a set of legs for my brent wheel. As far as I'm concerned its the
best money I ever spent! Not only was learning to throw standing up
incredibly easy, but my arms are getting a nice tone to them from using
these muscles to center. And when I need to do taller forms I just
stack up a few bricks and stand on them. No more back pain, either. So
go for it!

Harriet, the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach has a super clay program
run by Harvey Sadow. Check it out. Nils

harriet -

i'll second nils' recommendation. i attended malcolm davis' shino workshop at the
armory this past march, and was extremely impressed with both the facility and harvey
and his team. very light and airy space. if you want, email me off list and i can
email you some pictures i took during the workshop which show the space and the
reduction kiln.

ACTUALLY, FOR SOMEONE RESIDING IN WEST PALM BEACH, YOU WOULD MOST
PROBABLY
BENEFIT THE MOST FROM THE POTTERS GROUP ASSOCIATED WITH THE
BROWARD
COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN DAVIE, FL. - JOHN FOSTER TEACHES THE
CLAY
CLASSES THERE - OTHERWISE, THE CERAMIC LEAGUE OF MIAMI IS A
LONG-STANDING
ORGANIZATION (50 yrs) LOCATED IN KENDALL (south side of miami)
BUT
THEY ENCOURAGE MEMBERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION STATEWIDE -
305 233 2404
8873 SW 129 STREET
MIAMI FL 33176 - ALSO, JOHN GLICK IS THE FOCAL POINT OF MANY
ARTICLES
CONCERNING THE BENEFITS OF THROWING WHILE STANDING - IT HAS
KEPT
HIM IN ACTION FOR MANY YEARS! :) GOOD LUCK!
