Mario & Ellen @ A.I.R. Studioworks on thu 13 jul 00
I would like to make the following information available to the Clayart list.
I have tried unsuccessfully to open the site at http://www.ceramics.org/clayart
to subscribe, but would like to get this information out! :
Mario Quilles will be conducting a Raku Kiln Building/Glazing?Firing
Workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, July 24-27, and August 7-10.
This intense Four Day Workshop will allow the participant to fully
construct and fire their own 24" x 26" fiber raku kiln. All materials for
this kiln including 8 # density, one inch thick, ceramic fiber kaolwool
(2800 degrees), will be provided. Mario will introduce a number of Raku
glaze options, and provide participants with formulas suitable for Raku
Firing. Clay and Glazes will be provided.
We will do several test firings on your own kiln, cover safety
instructions and repairs. During the workshop, Mario will demonstrate his
own unique methods of hand building, including his distinctive approach to
sliip welded and folded construction. Mario makes his own tools from wood
native to the southwest, and will share his approach to tool making.
Participants are encouraged to bring bisque pieces made with Raku clay to
fire, Laguna Soldate Stoneware, cone 10, is suitable.
Please feel free to call with any questions, or with special scheduling
requests. We will attempt to accomodate you.
Fee: $475. includes materials and firings.
A.I. R. Studioworks is located ten miles south of Santa Fe, on the
historic "Turqouise Trail". It is surrounded by open fields and unique
mountains, with
expanses of spectaular skies which provide a never ending show during the
summer months. There are a variety of reasonable accomodations nearby,
We did several successful workshops last summer, and a great time was had
by all!
