I play with mud and celebrate
A bridge to potters long forgot,
Whose pitfires under starshine baked
The ground beneath to solid crust.
For need, they shaped and worked such pots
That put to shame my meager art;
To know that theirs have gone to dust
While mine remain, unmakes my heart.
