Fired structure in Hesperia and Local materials

Hello Jim-

Getting an analysis of your local clay is a good idea. It could be handy
for other student=92s projects.

The chemical properties of Portland cement should be easy to get. With a
little math or computer program the stability and other qualities of the
glaze should be predicted.

Most universities with structural ceramics departments should be able to
give you an analysis.

Some Mining companies have analytical equipment. Feldspar mining is an
example. They require chemical analysis for quality control.

I suggest you ask the Clayart group a specific question about where to
get an analysis on the west cost. Make sure the phrase =93analysis needed=
=94
or something similar is in the subject line. Mention the glaze batch
again and you should attract the attention of one of the Clayart glaze
gurus.

Here are some suggestions on filling your kiln:
Make some glazed bricks and tiles to use as filler. Ask for some big
unglazed stuff like birdbaths, ceramic lawn furniture.

Make sure you firing cycle is long enough. One of our Anagama experts
might shed light on that. Big kilns require time to mature. Be prepared
with extra fuel.

Are you going to use a damper on the stack?

Take care,
