I'm late on this, but I wanted to add my two cents for the person who
was travelling to Albuquerque. There are great native American pots
but also lots of good contemporary work. My favorite fine craft
gallery is Mariposa, located in the Old Town district. Another is
the Weyrick Gallery (hope I'm spelling it correctly). There is a
monthly ArtsCrawl with openings all around town. The galleries above
will have a schedule. A cool place in Albuquerque is the Arts Garage
downtown. You have to love a city with an art themed parking garage.
If you drive to Santa Fe, consider avoiding the interstate route and
go via Hwy. 14 through Madrid, a neat little town full of studios and
galleries. In Santa Fe, see Santa Fe Pottery on Guadalupe. Nearby
Santa Fe Clay has good summer workshops. Also don't miss the Running
Ridge Gallery on Canyon Road. If you drive on to Taos, you will
drive through some of my favorite scenery in the country. A loop
detour would take you to Dixon where a distinctive stone building
houses a coop fine crafts gallery. Taos is a whole experience to
itself, but a clay person would want to go to Clay & Fiber gallery
for sure. Have fun.
