I fired some pieces of that size in grad. school, and always fired them =
on wood. It was the easiest way to get the dry greenware into the kiln =
without stressing, or breaking, it. We just carried it on the wood. =
Wood burns out from under the piece slowly and everything I fired did =
just fine. Only one thing, you will have flash marks on the clay that =
is firing against the wood. They will burn out on a subsequent firing =
if you don't want them.
One concern I have is the possible flexing of the masonite when you =
carry the piece....could that damage the piece? I always have used =
rigid plywood.
Good luck, Donna Nicholas
