clay in cincinnati, oh

Pam Duncan on tue 25 jul 00

I recently relocated to Cincinnati from Wisconsin and would like to meet
local "clay people". Currently, due to the move, my studio looks like and
overturned supply truck, and it will be several months before it is
completely set up. (so much to do and so little time) In the mean time, I
would like to get to know about the local clay scene. I live in the
northern Cinti suburbs, so going as far as Dayton would not be out of the
question. Also, my husband and I do a little caving down in Kentucky just
south of Berea,(Rockcastle County) we get down there at least once a month.
Aren't all you Ohio Valley people glad that we brought Wisconsin weather
with us when we moved.....it has been wonderful. Thanks in advance, and I
look forward to the day I can get my hands muddy in clay again.

Dear Pam,

I couldn't help but notice your post about clay people for Cincinnati. I
just had two students from Cincinnati about two weeks ago. They enjoyed
Western North Dakota and also threw some nice pots during there stay with
me.

Pam, I am in Lancaster, Ohio about 30mi. SE of Columbus. We could talk off
list.... not that I know anything about Cinci's clay scene, but we do have a
great place to do pit firing in the Hocking Hills if your interested.

I have gotten good response to my query about Cincinnati potters and they
all seem very giving and friendly. I look forward to attending the Clay
Alliance meeting this fall where I can meet them in person. It just seems
that potters, especially those who participate in ClayArt are extremely
giving. Thanks for your note, Pam in Cincinnati

Pam, what is the Clay Alliance?

Susan

LJTCW@AOL.COM on fri 28 jul 00

The Clay Alliance is an organization founded in 1998 to raise the profile of
clay and clay artists in the Greater Cincinnati Ohio area. We achieve these
goals through projects and programs that involve educating the public and
ourselves, building community awareness of our skills and by reaching out to
the community at large with public service (ie. Empty Bowls ).

Membership is open to anyone interested in clay. If you are interested in
becoming a member or need more information, please respond off list to

Pam
Regarding your message about Cinti clay: There are several avenues you can
choose from in the region. University-wise Ana Englund teaches at Northern
Kentucky University, across the river in Highland Heights. Roy Cartwright
teaches at the University of Cincinnati. Both Roy's and Ana's facilities
are brand new. I teach up in Oxford, Ohio at Miami University and most of
my facilities are about seven years old. There's more schools in the area
I am not familiar with all of them.

There are several clay shops in cinti as well. Quite a few of ceramic
artists and potters in the area. Check out Annies Mud Pie shop. There is
also a Cinti Clay Guild. I will send you more stuff later, just got back
from vacation and am weeding thru over 800 e-mails.
