I've dealt with Apple and their Macs
for decades. Of course I have an IBM at home
and a Dell for good measure.
At work the Ed accounts people
have been very good to me though
I was told by an Apple staffer
"We often re-use reconditioned parts"
which explained why my old Quadra died at
the age of 7 months.
It is now 6 years old with new
parts and still going strong.
Yes you might have to freak out at
the computer guys if they give you
no service. And in person is good. But
you should not have to do that.
A good Apple rep (they can be found!
often in Tech support) will solve your troubles.
I have no interest in Apple and as I said do
not own or use them personally, but
my professional experience with them
has been pretty doggone flawless--kinda.

Hi Diane,

In the last 10 years I've bought 5 Mac's for my family.
No problems with the Mac SCII.
Mac powerbook crashed in one week. Replaced with new Powerbook 165. No
problems.
PowerMac 7500/100 - a nightmare for the first year. No tech could fix it.
But I did get to spend alot of money on techs who said they could. Now
I've gotten use to it.
My daughters powerbook has been in the service dept more than at home.
My other daughter has a G3 powerbook , no problems.

Not a great record for all the expenses. In California where I bought
these there are only two distributors - so you are stuck with the one shop
in your town that sells them. And their policy is that they repair only,
not replace. Kind of a crappy deal considering how expensive Mac's are
compared to other brands.

Brenda:
I think just because our school buys macs by the
dozens, we do get better service. My G-3 at school
is perfect. But it is only 16 mos old. I do find that
my IBM/Dell experiences have been much better--so far.
I hope your new powerbook is a keeper!!! I'll say prayers
for you!
