itc 100 for raku kiln shelf

Hi Clayarters! I'm about to replace a shelf and supports in my raku
kiln and would like to spray all of it with ITC 100. The inside of
the kiln has already been sprayed with ITC 100. I will use soft brick
for the shelf supports, and there is soft brick on the bottom of the
kiln. I understand that a thin layer of ITC is preferable. Is it
possible to brush it on, and can I cover top and bottom of the shelf,
as well as all sides of the brick supports, or will the ITC cause the
supports and shelf to stick together? Your advice will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joyce R. in the north Georgia mountains where it continues to be too
hot and dry

For small shelves, you can brush it. Thin it first, and brush
(or a roller works well) on. Brush all sides/edges of shelves.
I actually dip posts, because
that's easier, provided the ITC is deep enough. Put it in
a tall narrow can or something, use tongs if you like for
dipping.

Then, BISQUE FIRE THE SHELVES & POSTS before you use them
for a glaze firing. I usually sit the shelves on edge for
this, if there's just a couple or so. You can do it in your
raku kiln - bring it up to about 1600F, more or less. Or fire
them flat, on small posts, and sit your posts on top the shelf.
They might stick a little, but will pop right off.

Let cool, & you're ready to go.

You can brush it on and after it dries it won't stick together. It
is a good idea to cover all sides and edges. nl
