June, go to this site www.mhpa.com . Malakoff High Purity Aluminas.
Malakoff Industries is a subsidiary of Reynolds Metals that merged with
Alcoa metals earlier this year. There is a contact person listed that could
possibly help you identify former Alcoa alumina products. Let us know what
you find out.

Anyone out there know if this is calcined alumina, alumina hydrate, alumina
oxide or????
I have a recipe for a dry shino that calls for this and was ready to make up
a small test batch and realized that I have no idea what this is! I have
alumina hydrate, alumina oxide and calcined alumina available. None of my
suppliers list this and I couldn't even find it on the Alcoa site.
Thanks!

Whilst dealing with this question, can our scientist potters tell me what I
have actually got when I kiln "tin foil" "silver paper" etc at cone 2?
It must be aluminium of some kind. Most is fine powder. Some is rather more
lumpy, particularly, I think, where it comes from the reinforced edges of
containers for freezer food.
I feel that what I have should be OK for making into batwash at least.
Any ideas of the actual composition and other uses of it?
The recycle market for such stuff has disappeared round here, otherwise I
would send it on to Oxfam or suchlike.
