Hi,
We're in San Antonio for the rest of this week. Does anybody have
recommendations for any clay people/ items of interest in this area?
Here on for non-pottery related conference, but would like to make this
a pleasure trip, too. -)
Thanks,
Jan and Terry

Was at the Southwest Craft Center today - great place
to visit. Billy Manghum was my first pottery
instructor - some of his work is in the gift shop at
the SW Craft Center - while at the SW Craft Center
plan on lunch and a visit to their ceramics lab -

you might enjoy visiting the blue star art complex on south alamo st, just
opposite the pioner flower mill. there is a talanted potter there by the
name of Marcia Dahlman, who maked beautiful raku and is gives classes on
making water fountains. You might e mail John Nelson or Glenda Deal of our
SA Potters guild, at ......they can come up with more ideas. pgbrinkmann

I live in Houston & have not reseached the pottery world of San Antonio as
much as I want to. Go to the riverwalk & visit laVietta (?spelling) there is
a good shop there. You might enjoy the steps along with River Walk, which
are tiled & lovely.

You might try DALE NEESE at the San Antonio Potters Guild # 210-688-9261 or
D.Neese@worldnet.att.com.

Contact STEVE REYNOLDS at: sreynolds@utsa.edu or 830-537-4867. Steve is the
area director of TEXAS CLAY ARTS ASSOCIATION & professor at UTSA ceramics
department.

And the Southwest School of Arts & Crafts has a wonderful reputation: 300
Augusta, 210-224-1848 or www.swschool.org.

Hope those work to give you leads :o)

Sincerely,

Jan and Terry...re:San Antonio

Steve Reynolds at UTSA(Univ.of Tx. at SA)
Southwest Craft Center-for contacts of what and where
Hood Clay Co. (may have changed names)

I haven't lived there in many years but the area is teeming with cratsmen
here and there. The above names could be contacts for exploration. Also,
Lana Perkins, a rakuist friend, maybe could lead you to galleries and
individuals.

Jan and Terry,
Steve Reynolds is at the University of Texas at San Antonio...if around, he
may be very helpful. Also, Southwest Craft Center, Hood Clay Co.(name may
have changed), and my friend, Lana Perkins(rakuist) may be helpful in making
contacts. If able to travel and want to meet a really fun guy who will know
everybody and everything going on in the area, get in contact with Billy Ray
Mangham at the Sleeping Dog Pottery in San Marcos(maybe New Braunfels)...two
little towns right north on I-35 headed toward Austin. He and his wife and
studio space are worth an entire trip to the Lone Star.
There are many craftsmen in the area...hoping that one mentioned above
can help. jack

Hi!
I'm from San Antonio. Be sure and visit the Southwest Craft Center, used to
be a Catholic School. It is on the river walk but you can drive there as
well. The grounds are beautiful and they have a small gallery/gift shop and a
cafe. There is also a small group of artists and galleries in the King
Williams area which is adjacent to down town S.A. I think it is called the
Blue Star or something similar and there is a wonderful little resteraunt
that is open for breakfast and lunch in the King Williams area it is the old
pioneer flour mill and I think the name is River Mills but I'm not sure.
Ask at the Hotel they will know the name and can give you directions.
Have Fun!
