tools at schools

We may make jokes about knives at school, but let me warn you that the
schools, some in particular, take this VERY seriously - to extreme
interpretations, in some cases! I just read the disciplinary handbook for
our local school system last night (a homework requirement for my kids to
make me do it), and in my state, it is a FELONY for ANYONE to bring a
"weapon" into a school or ONTO SCHOOL PROPERTY (your car in the school
parking lot is ON school property!). The book goes on to define "knife" as
anything designed to cut with a blade longer than two inches...five CM!
Also felony-status are razor blades, now known in the art department as
"trimmers". My swiss army "tool" that appears to be "airline approved",
since it lives in my purse & has been x-rayed hundreds of times, will put
me in commission of a felony if it is in my purse when I drive my child to
school.

So - before you volunteer your services at a school, you should carefully
check that your fettling "knife" is not going to land you in jail. If you
happen to "upset" someone at a school, they can "report" you for the
contents of your typical potter's tool box - you might not be convicted,
but you sure will have your life turned upside down!

Amy, where common sense has left the building with Elvis!
PS - forget the cowboy boots - the pointy toes are not allowed in my local
elementary school!

dangerous but that the school authorities are protecting their butts and
acceding to the demands of their insurance companies. A society is indeed
in pitifle straits when its citizens are held to ransom. Don M.
