While I've been just lurking for the last few months due to lack of time to
respond, I've really enjoyed all the postings during my midnight readings. I
almost think I should light a candle, smudge and play native flute music
during those times. It is the closest an isolated studio potter comes to
networking. Thanks be to clayart.
Now I have a question. Has anyone replaced their thermocouple on their Skutt
controller? If so where did you get it and how ghastly expensive are they.
Someone told me they thought they were about $40. E Gads! I only paid about
$18 for the pyrometer thermocouple. Any help appreciated.

Yes, they've gone up. When I screamed I was told that it's an
improved version and Skutt says they'll last twice as long. They'd
better.

Bobbi,
It is my understanding that replacement thermocouples of the type that came
with the Skutt kiln are available for about $20 (this is the kind that
flakes). The $40.00 version supposedly does not flake. When I buy a new
one, it will be the $40.00 kind, if I can find it.
Hope this helps.

BOBBIE:
The thermocoupling for your Skutt is approx. $20 and they are easy to
install. Just be sure that you have the polarity the same as the one that
you currently are using. You should have no trouble if you are careful. If
you are still doubtful, call me and I'll come over and put it in for you. As
a matter of fact I think I have one here so call me anyhow.

I suggest buying the cheap one and coat the end in ITC 213. It will last
as long as you do. Nils

Nils,
Thanks for the information. I will try that. Next question... do I coat the
whole thermocouple or just the metal end?

Coat any part that gets red hot, but it won't hurt to coat the whole
thing. nl
