I was In Ireland about 2 years ago (it was absolutely fabulous...stayed
in neat B&B's and met delightful people)...I found interesting pottery
almost everywhere....but my fave was the Kilkenny Design center in County
Kilkenny, near the castle. I especially liked the "reptile pots" and
some great raku.

An interesting aside: The "B&B" (it was more like a motel) we stayed in
north of Dublin (not too far from the airport) served
meals ONLY on obviously thrown pottery...when I questioned (and
complimented them on their good taste)....I learned the owners commissioned
a local sheltered workshop to make it for them! Nice.

enjoy!!

(I also live in Michigan)

Greg,
How awesome!!!
My husband and I went to Ireland twice once was not enough!!!!We thought we
could drive the place in one trip but fell so in love with it and the
people we are talking about retiring there.
If you could give me your route I can dig around in all my pottery flyers
etc. and share what we found.

We landed in Belfast the first trip in 1998 and went into Larne, along the
coast to Coleraine , Londonderry to Donegal to Sligo then around the coast
to Galway and straight across. The place that stands out most this trip was
a place called Howth it is a wonderful boating town on the coast south of
Dublin where I met a unqiue potter named Marie -Jehanne her email is was
www.irishop.com. she does alot of slip work that is just goregous which
helped me to do the same. The place is called MudWorks.

This year we landed in Dublin and went along the coast stopping in Kikenny
, Waterford,Cork,Killarney Ennis,Galway,Ballinasoe and back into Dublin. We
went through all the towns along the route and stopped this trip to talk to
every potter we saw a sign for. From large commerical productions to small
one man bands.
Most memorable Kinsale a rich wonderful city full of artist. They are
having their 2000 art show in Sept 13-24th ...ooohh could tell many
wonderful stories about that place....The place was crackpots and the
artist was Carole Norman her email is crackpts@iol.ie she runs a "ceramic
restaurant and pottery on 3 cork street, Kinsale co. Cork. wonderful food
and nice pottery to eat from, treasured experience!!!!!
Kinsale had many B&B's to stay in. IN Ballycasey I met Max Halliday this is
over in co. Clare...wonderful , wonderful place...He owned and operated
Rineanna Pottery and was such a hoot...he laughs at American potters that
have to use gagets to hold their pots down while triming , of course as a
child he worked at Stephen Pearce potter which is a large manufactoring
plant in Shanagarry co. cork that is a must see too.
Oh, in Kinsale there are lots of potters up and down the street. We rarely
stay in one place longer than a day but there we did because of the rich
artwork.
In county Cork they have a association of artist and craftworkers and I
found most of the cities did we just asked the first artist we came across
and they usually directed us to the place where we found list of artist and
the addresses.

The best guide book we have found is Frommer's Ireland 2nd additon it has
been right on the money and gets exactly where iyou wanna go and more.

Again let me know your destination and I will see what I can find.
LUCKY DOG!!! Rhonda , surfside beach S.C.

Hi,
My Bride and I have been to Erin ( Ireland) three times and found some
good potterys One good one was in Dingle and another was out on Ackle
Island. Talked to a potter in Clifton and she said it was tough to get a
lot of the chemicals that we Americans take for granted - She was very
interested in Raku and wanted receipes!
