Hi I am the proud owner of a Walker pug mill and it is full of cone 10
porcelain. I am having a few challenges that maybe someone out there can
help me with. When I pug up my recycled clay I get a lot of air, A LOT of
air in very tiny bubbles throughout the clay. I don't know how to change
this. Often, the clay will seem very soft but when I wedge it up it is
actually too dry. The softness comes from the air content not the moisture
content. Before I sell the Walker, which I love, and buy a deairing pugmill
I just thought I would ask. Jeri

Jeri,
I also have a Walker pug mill that I like. I used it alone for 30
years before also buying a de-airing pug mill. When using just the Walker, I
make the batch and stack it on a table next to the mill. When the batch is
finished, I take sections of the stacked clay and pug it through again using
the tamper to pack it tight and push it into the tunnel area. This usually
seemed to remove most of the air and cause the body to tighten up. Hope this
helps.
