Hey Garret; Check out Ruthanne Tudball's book on soda firing. According to
her, the neighbors hardly know there's a kiln in her studio_______she uses
sodium carbonate, not salt. Hank in Eugene

We live in a small town, on Main Street in Bethel Maine. I would love to
build a small salt or soda kiln out of extra bricks and old burners that I
have around. Can salt or soda be used right in town without scaring the
neighbors? That last experience I had with salt firing was at Penland in the
early 70's and I seem to remember the white smoke filling the valley as they
did it.
